I bought a brand new epson 21 pin dot matrix printer. I use photoshop to turn pictures into line drawings. I then print onto spirit paper to the dot matrix and it make FANTASTIC sharp stencils.

Practice skins in my opinion suck. I always likes the pumpkin or grapefruit and what works great too is a pig skin. Remember the first real skin you EVER want to put your needle in is your own.
