Ouch. Got my tattoo last night and have noticed puffiness in areas where he spent most of his time. Is this normal? Could I be applying too much neosporin? It looks bubbly...

I tend to freak out when there's nothing wrong, but I don't want to ignore it if it's not "okay".

Any advice?

Swelling is normal, don't worry about that.

Do not use Neosporin!!!!. it's great for cuts and scrapes, but not for tattoos. Use Bacitracin or A&D. You should use just enough ontment to barely be able to tell that it's there This is just enough to keep the tattoo moist and to keep it from scabbing .Ointment should be applied whenever the tattoo is feeling stiff or dry

Puffiness is normal , i get it on some spots ....it depends on where and how much work he does in that spot .
I use bepanthon on my tats , as John said only a small amount to just keep it from drying out to much .

Thanks for your input guys. The swelling went down some overnight, but seems to get swollen again as the day goes on. I ditched my neo and got some bacitracin.

I really appreciate your feedback.

Okay - one more question - I just want to make sure that swelling (on a foot tattoo) will look "bubbly." It's so bizarre, I just want to make sure it's cool. Tat is not quite 48 hours old...

well,, you really don't want to see "bubbly" Go easy on the ointment remember just enough to keep it moist. apply ointment 3 - 5 times throughout the day. Do this for the first 5 to 10 days as needed. ( when it feels dry)
When I wake up during the night which I do a lot Rolling Eyes I'll apply a very thin coat!!. then go back to sleep LOL

Only 48 hr old. There will be swelling & some redness around the area..your skin took a beating Wink

Just follow your artists after care instructions to a tee. If the shop is close by won't hurt to pop in and let the artist take a look at it. They will care because it don't matter if you do something wrong or they did.. it's there ink on you ,so they want to make sure it turns out the best it can. Wink

Thanks again for good advice. I think I could have been applying too often. It's looking better every morning. I'll be getting a touch up down the road, which is to be expected for the foot.

Thanks again John...

foot tattoo's will swell up...the constant hammering on the boney area will do that...
try to go light on the ointment...i made that mistake and i have a bubbly tattoo. had it reworked three times now...and it itches like mad. but hey ho life is a bitch sometimes...

Chic - did your bubbles go away and how long did it take? how long did you have to wait to have it reworked? was it just redone - is that why it is still itchy?
