i have two tattoos.
one (my first) i had done at craft crazy in fareham;
pete, was very friendly and we had a nice conversation whilst he was
inking me he even let my best mate come in too, which made me feel
more comfortable. all in all it was a very pleaserueable(sp?) experience.
my second, i had done in preston at a place called studio 81 (think)
the guy doing it wouldnt let my friend out of the waiting room (ok fair enough) there was another guy having a tattoo done by another artist whilst i was having mine done. the guy kept a converstaion going whilst i was having my tattoo, but not with me with the other tattooist and the other guy beong tattooed. its not like i didnt try to join in the ocnversation but you know when people ignore your input....
wasnt overly impressed with his bedside manner, so to speak.
still liked the tattoo and the feeling of having it done, but it would have been nice if the guy at least asked me 'why did i choose this picture' or anything.
what are other peoples experiences with this?
i supose it abit like going to the hair dressers....some make conversation....others i guess dont....???? |

Totally old thread, but interesting nonetheless
The artist I go to sings with the music (he loves blues and funk), and he will converse, but he's not overly-chatty. I kind of like that, actually. It allows me to relax and breathe, and I don't feel as though I have to be amusing. Usually I get very quiet while being inked because I'm concentrating on staying supple and relaxed through the process, which can be time-consuming for both of us. He's very friendly and has a good sense of humor, and if I have questions he answers them and doesn't make me feel like an idiot.
I think I dislike being made to feel stupid more than anything else in relation to the process. The artists should answer your questions and be informative, no matter how much ink you have on your skin already. |

I love the guys at boomtown where i got my two tats and my second nipple piercing they're funny as. my tattoo artist Benno reckons the chinese symbol on the inside of my left wrist really means 'i love Benno' instead of Tiger. Before he did it he put this cream where the tat was going to go then wrapped it in glad wrap and made me sit outside for 15 minutes, he sort of forgot to tell me it was numbing cream so i was so confused for a while but it was nice of him. And it still hurt bad over the veins.
And they let me sit behind the desk to watch my twin sister get her tat and they let me watch her get her nipple pierced too even though they don't usually. It's always fun going there. |

last week i got my 3rd, and a different artist did it. I totally love the guys there (not love as in love) but this guy never talked, he was friendly though. And in the end he goes, "youve totally tired me out - i'm gonna have to retire now!" and it was so funny! This tatt being tiny and that he never talked before.
So I guess I'm trying to say, although someone isnt talking to you doesn't mean they are shitty or not interested. And that I love where i go and get mine |

| My tattooist didnt talk much, bu thats because he had the guy he works with talk to me instead, so he could focus on the tattoo. So I spoke to him instead, and it definatly helped. When I took my mom to get a tattoo, they let me in there with her, so I spoke to her, and she really appreciated it. |

Setting the mode Different View
Before anyone sits in my chair I have usually met with themon several occasions... The Studio has a Fish tank which people comment on, I always ask if they need something to drink and will turn the channel on the sterio to what ever they want... I know that I wipe a lot, so I warn people when ever I am about to do some thing...
My own experiences have led me to be more concerned with the customers comfort... I for one have had hours of work done inwhich the whole time all I wanted to do was change position or grab a pillow... It sucks when you're laying there and you have more pain from a cramped leg then the Tattoo... |

| Where we go our tattooist is very abrupt, when you first meet him. But now we talk through most of it . Or until it hurts a little more than I liked it to or if he's at a real fiddly bit. But he's the best around and I trust no other to mess with my skin, or should I say canvas. The Tattman. |

| The Artist I had I had met with him several times before I received my first Tattoo. When i finally got it done he walked me through it and had a conversation with me throught out the whole time I was there. i feel it helped by going in and getting to know him be fore hand. |

| i have used several tattooists in the past but i have to admit i will never change from my present one. Its the first time i have went to a female tattooist and she is about my age so its really easy to talk, the talking seems to make the time fly. |

I allways talk with my clients. It's a great way to gauge how they are holding up. I also stop and go outside for a cigarette when they feel the need and make them a coffee or get them some other drink at this time also. I don't overbook and I don't charge them for the time that they need a breather or a little break. (I set aside allot of time for each client.)
I also keep Ensure meal replacement drinks in every flavor in my fridge. This is the best tool to help someone who is starting to feel not well.(This is also no charge.)
I had one tattoo artist treat me in this same way years ago and I loved the whole experience, now I do the same. |
