Hi Kohai for those of us in england what exactly is a hillbilly or a redneck or a hick ,we hear these terms and see it on the telly but ive never really had it explained to me what it all means.Hope im not being rude by asking. Question

Hill billies are more the people from mountainous areas. The ones who play banjos and smoke corn cob pipes and don't wear shoes until winter sets in. Mostly they're known as Appalachians. They are the dregs of society among caucasions. Redneck is a term used around the southeast of the US. They wear baseball caps with logos, drink far too much beer, and usually don't have a good opinion to give about anyone who isn't white. I know these things not so much from being born and raised in the southeast but because I'm married to the king of rednecks. lol. If you ever see an interview on American tele with anyone who looks as if they haven't seen a brush or a dentist in decades then you've seen a redneck.
Look up info on Jeff Foxworthy, a comedian. He talks about them and it hits dead on the mark. Quite funny. Oh, if you ever visit the southeast be prepared for southern slang. We have our own special way of mutilating the English language down here.

Forgot to add that when among rednecks it is okay to refer to someone as such only if you are one or are on very friendly terms with one. To call someone from Alabama a hillbilly is a bit like calling a redhead in England a ginger.
