I'm entertaining the idea of being a tattoo artist.

Friends of mine love my art, and they brought the idea up to me. I'd like to apprentice somewhere... but before i take that step - i'd like to try it out... to see if it's something i could really see myself doing well.

i wonder if there's... like a test skin available. i've heard of using fruit, like oranges - is that true? is that good practice?

You can use fruit, but I'd go for something a bit bigger like a melon or pumpkin.

You can also use practice (fake) skins, animal skins (say from belly pork) or get a plastic football, cut it in half & turn it inside out & use that.

However, as I have found out all of these are only good for getting the feel of the machines. Real skin is a LOT different than fake stuff (it's actually easier to tattoo!) & you have to remember if you're going too deep on fake stuff, it doesn't cry & complain!!
