Im sure you guys see this a lot on here, but Im going to be turning 18 on May 8th and I want to get one or more done for my birthday as a present to myself.
So far, Im thinking norcal stars on my waistline, one on the right and one on the left.
But, Im open to anything that isnt HUGE cause I know they hurt.
Again, If you have some custom ones that youd like to see done, no one else has or something, Id be glad to take a look at them and maybe even use them if Its ok with you.
ANY INPUT IS APPRECIATED. Thanks again.
Feel free to Instant Message me, AIM is hey y0 nick |

| I personally wouldnt do anything with tribal. Onc again EVERYONE seems to be doing that these days. Personal, unique, and a special meaning behind it are maybe what to shoot for with a first piece. |

ok your just turning 18 so i will forgive your lack of knowledge and creativity. but please don't get nautical stars, every third person has them, you want to be different right??? if you don't want to be different, just walk into a shop, get some flash tribal or some nautical stars off the wall and be just like almost every other person walking around.
the thing about tattoos that is great is that everyone is different and everyone has to think for themselves what to get. you cant ask someone else, because what they think is cool should not automatically make it cool for you.
also, no one is just going to draw up a custom designed tat for you, usually you have to pay an artist to do that.
here is my advice to you:
-do some serious thinking, what is important to you, what are your interests, hobby's, etc...
- look at as many artists portfolios online as you can, get familiar with different styles
- go see an aritst or two or three, know what you want and where you want it, have them draw it up for you. |

Ok, thanks everyone for the help. I realize I didnt really use the search, so Im sorry for that. Nautical Stars was the first thing I could think of.
I have an artistic friend who is drawing up some things for me tonight, I talked to her about it she said she was more than willing to help me out, so Ill post the pics of what she comes up with.
And tomorrow, I am going to stop by a few shops and see what they can do. Thanks for the suggestion! |

dude i just noticed you are from the bay area, there are TONS of awesome artists up there. you should easily be able to find someone sweet. be picky!!! don't settle on the first place you go. make sure you get along with the artist and there is a good vibe between you two. it is very important!!
if i was up there i would get something done by Jason Grace, he is stuff is really cool.
and honestly since you are just turning 18, i know it will suck, but once you know what you want : wait. this is going to be on your forever, so your first thing that came to mind excuse is not going to sound as good when you are 60. go to the artist you decide on, get him to put on the stencil and go home. look at how it will be with that on your body forever and get used to it being there. bottom line: don't rush into just because you are 18 now and can do it legally.
good luck bro, keep us updated and take pics!!
p.s. they don't hurt that bad |

Ive been told about the wait issue, and Im thinking it over. And, Ill check out the guy you reccomended. I have to places in San Jose so far that sound good:
Players Ink
Bulldog Lifestyles
Both have done AMAZING stuff on a few of my higher age friends.
I know for a fact I want something on my waistline, but I might get something else before I go into that. I figure Ill go check them out tomorrow, get some prices. |

Yeah sometimes the wait is the worst..
My Artist is one that is sometimes hard to get into for your first piece but if you go back... I know for me I always try to book afterhours costs a little more and most shops won't do that for someone just off the street but it is nice to have that flexibility.
But i find when you wait sometimes thats a good thing because it gives you more time to think about it and thats when changes happen tweeks if I may.
The thing is to find a good Artist YOU feel comfortable with. Then its all ink from there. |

| Hey buddy, if you're waiting you should get to know the artist too. I always stop by the shop 4 or 5 times to talk things over before I get work done. The artist gets to know you better and your ideas. Coffee helps with this. |
