I am currently a student at a university, and I was hoping that you would answer a few questions. I am a new fan of tattoos as I just had one done, but I also am doing a project for my Intro to Rhetoric class. If anyone would be willing to answer these questions for me, it would be greatly appreciated! Very Happy

1. What kind of tattoo seems to be the most common (stars, crosses, hearts...)?

2. Do you feel more males or females get tattoos?

3. Which spot, from your experience or to your knowlege, is the most painful to get a tattoo?

4. What age is the most common for a person to get a tattoo?

5. Do you feel you are stereotyped because of your tattoos?

6. Do you have any sort of description for the process?

7. Do you have any photos or description of the equipment used?

Thank you very much. I should know some of these as I did just get my tattoo done a couple days ago. Unfortunately, I chose not to look at the process as it was being done. Wink

3. Ive heard ribs? But my experience my inner arm (out of an outer arm one and an ankle)

I hope your mum gets better, my prayers are with her Sad That is a lovely thing you did for your mum. Mum's are so sweet, I love my mum so much, she is my best friend and without her I would truly, truly be lost. She is the only person who loves me for me no matter what I do, if i murdered someone she'd hate me but still love me! And you don't get that with anyone else apart from your dog!

My first one was a banner, with Leo written in it (Leo as in the movie star!!!). They make good first tattoos.

I now have 4 and i swear this will be my last, at least for now!

Yeah, moms are priceless. It doesn't matter what you do, they will love you forever! And that's cool that you have four... I'm already thinking of where I want my next one. My sister is getting her first one soon. It's going to be a pink bandaid on her right breast in the area that they found the cancer in my mom's. I'm so proud of her being able to do that!!!

3. Which spot, from your experience or to your knowlege, is the most painful to get a tattoo? I have yet to here of anyone not suffer badly when getting the wrist tattooed!

6. Do you have any sort of description for the process? Tattooing is the injection of ink/pigment into the dermis area of the skin.

7. Do you have any photos or description of the equipment used? For photos just look up any tattoo suppliers on Google. Type in tattoo machine or iron (NEVER call it a gun to a tattooist!) But basically you have a machine that has an armature bar with a needle bar attached that runs to the tip (the bit that holds the ink & look like a pen). This armature is connected to the iron by a set of springs. Coils on the machine pulls the armature bar down when the power is switched on & as it does so the power connection is broken. The springs returns the armature bar back up & in doing so reconnects the power. This happens hundreds of times a second. As the armature bar does this the needle is drawn up & down through the needle tip where it picks up a small amount of ink that is deposited into the dermis (layer beneath the epidermis or what we call skin)

Well thats the physics lesson for today. Hope it helps.

when my sister was 17 (she's almost 20 now) she got two Kanji tatts, one on her arm and one on the area - think its called above the bikini line, anyway above where her top of undies finish. I think Gisele Bundchen has one, well that is why carly got it there Confused

She wasn't really supposed to at 17 as its illegal here, but mum signed for her. And my 16 year old sister got her lip pierced just recently Laughing we are all rebel kids! No, but mum always says yes. I love my mum Smile i love mums.

Thanks for the answers on those last questions. It will definitely come in handy for my project Smile And I have five sisters and one brother... I am the only one with a tattoo so far. I also had my nose pierced when I was 17 with my mom's signature of course. My sister that I live with wants to get a tattoo of a pink bandaid on her right breast in the area that they found the cancer in my mom's. My oldest sister wants to put a lily with wings around it for her two kids... her daughter Lily that is actually not even born yet, she's due in August! And then her son Aaron for the wings because he was born three months early and is her lil angel! I'm thinking of getting my next one with something for my nephews and niece that's on the way!

Kimberly anne, you have a lovely big family! Yeh, I suppose your siblings would like some as well Laughing Your neice and nephew sound very cute (well neice when she is born!).

I maybe will get a peace sign, really small on my left wrist under my watch, but Ive just had two in two weeks ~gasp~ and i think i should probably put my money elsewhere for a while (like for things I need!!!). I really don't want to occupy my brain in getting another tatt just yet! I'm ADDICTED. And since I'm 21 with 4 already I need to SLOW DOWN!!!
