my name is Megan and I was wantin to ask you guys some questions
if its not too much trouble. Sense I've been about 8 yrs old, I have
wanted to be a tattoo artist. Luckily, I have had the chance to apprience
under an ex's mother. And the whole while I loved every minuet of it!
But unfortunately when we broke up it was nasty and I was unable to
continue. So, that really put things on pause. Because Im still underage I
have to wait until Im 18 to really get things goin again. (Im soon to
be 17) And to me thats wayyy to much of a wait. I have gotten a pretty
good start, I've drawn up a few tattoos for my buddies and clients that
Connie (the tattoo artist) had. I really enjoy the buisness and I know
how it can be hard and and very expensive. Im not nieve to everything
and Im not doing this because its 'cool', I find the passion in this
buisness very rewarding and something I would be very content with doin
the rest of my life.
The main questions I have for you guys is how do I go about really
getting prepared for the big step into tattoodom...lol...I mean I know
pretty much what I need to do and all, but like, should I go ahead and
start buying supplies and stocking up? I know everything is soooo very
expensive but I can do good if I can get a head start now. I also wanna
know if theres a web site or company that sells good quality, not too off
the wall expensive that you would suggest. I appriciate you taking your
time to read this and hope you can responde. I hope yall can understand
where Im coming from.
Sincerly

Hi Megan,
Good luck to you. As you are still young I would advise you to spend the time up till you reaching the age of consent or legality learning the hygiene and safety issues very thouroughly. The "Superior Tattoo" company (do a Google search with that word) in the US is a company selling good stuff at reasonable prices complete kits with flashes a shader, outliner, clip line, adjustable power source and pedal, all the leads,6 inks and DVD tuition all in an aluminium case and the odd ebay search can even under cut their prices for the same material.
Please take the time to do it well as over enthusiasm can actually slow the process in many ways:lots can go wrong and being permanent people can get very upset with mistakes with letter spacing that change names like Clint to irritating and vulgar insignia, make sure of this for yourself also as there is nothing worse than a tattoo you dislike or bloomed linework from over penetration and a coverup not possible.
Regarding the Suyperior sets, I would request one of the machine heads to have 1-14" coils as some of the 1" coil heads I have found to lack a little grunt on the leathery skin of Hard Working outdoorsman types in the shading department. Goodluck and remember the pitfalls can be very long lasting and one enemy is too many when the eyes are on the front of the head only. |

| god don't listen to that other guy, kits of any sort = BIG no no if you're trying to become a respectable tattoo artist. do it the right way...not the lazy way. study the art. get an apprenticeship with a real tattoo artist. look up older tattoo artists and learn about them. it's not a hobby, it's an art so learn it just like you would anything else. study and DRAW DRAW DRAW!!! |
