| i got my first tattoo 3 weeks ago and my dad (who has always been against it) really liked it. the one thing he said after though was "this was your first and last" that bothered me because i want to get more. My question is, what if he gets angry when i come home from college and i have another tattoo? is that just normal? will he eventually get over it? oh and the tattoos that i want are very important, they are in memory of my mom. |

| been there, done that... piercings too.... my parents eventually got over it.. they realized this is who i am, and im the same person with or without the ink and metal... i think most parents would be the same, and since your dad likes the first one, i think he'll be a little more accepting! plus, the fact that your other ones are for your mom... |

he loves you;he'll get over it!
my daughter came home for a wkend when she was a jr in college; she bent over to get something out of her car, and i saw a black butterfly on the small of her back! i rubbed it, thinking it was a temp. tat. it didn't come off. i asked, "is that real?" she replied it was. i said, "good luck w/ dad!"
he was very upset at first ( he thought tats were only for drunken sailors!), and told her he was really disappointed in her. this lasted for about a day! she's now married to a guy who doesn't like tats ( they say you marry your dad!); so she regrets it.
but i THANK her, cuz i now have 3! as i was getting my most recent last sunday, my hubby ( her dad) came into the studio w/ something for me to drink while i lay on my side getting inked!
being young, though, make sure you get tats that will mean something for a long, long time so that you won't regret it a year after you get it. |

| You are allowed to make decisions for yourself. It's your life! Since this tattoo is so meaningful to you, I say don't worry about his reaction. |

I'd say just get the tattoos you want. You are an adult and have to make your own decisions in life. The fact that your dad doesn't approve is actually something HE has to deal with. He should be happy you aren't dropping out of school, smoking crack and raping homeless retards (you aren't are you?)
What I mean is he'll get over it! |

yes he probably will be mad at first, and yes he will (in most situations) get over it. you know that old cop out saying, its my body ill do what i want with it. well its true, it is YOUR body and you have to live with what you put on it. if the tats you want are importent to you no matter what they are, then get them. i have 7 tats right now and my mom hated when i got my first one, she got over it and has gotten used to it. what you put on your body is your choice, but try to make it a good choice. |

| They'll be upset at first but they all end up accepting it in the end. The first time my Mom saw mine, she almost cried but after that, she was used to it. As long as your not sleeved I'm sure your parents can accept it. |

Im sure your dad said that in hopes that you would agree with him and say "yeah it is my last tattoo" but the fact that u didnt say that, im sure deep down he knows you're addicted. Just like the rest of us. And im sure your next tattoo (especially cuz its in memory of) he'll say that he likes it too. ANd maybe he'll say "Its your second and last" lol.
Dont worry your daddy loves u, no matter what! |
