I'm currently an artist looking to get into tattooing. After having tattoos done on myself and enjoying the whole process, I think it's a profession I'd be interested in getting into. I'm completely unaware how I'd begin the process.
Is there a specific path in college for this? I'd like to go to an art school.
Drawing? Any specific resources or techniques in sketching tattoo designs?
Equipment? Apprenticeship? Lots of questions, thanks everyone. |

without a NATURAL APTITUDE or disposition towards art and drawing,..it's gonna be tough.
but with the available flash sets out there,.....you can manage. Purchase and download as much flash as you can ,..and the practice, practice, practice.
Your gonna have to buy yourself a setup,.......and if you can't get an apprenticeship,....scrounge every bit of info you can on the net. get some practice skins,.......get any video instructions you can get your hands on,....and go with it. I will tell you it gets easier as you go along. |

I actually just started tattooing on my own....
The state of PA doesnt require you to be certifed to be a tattoo artist or body piercer...
Basically what I did was go into serveral tattoo shops with a portfolio until I found one that said theyd teach me...
The piercer certified me after doing one piercing on myself and I got my apprenticeship certification hours by doing tattoos on myself and the shop owner and his family...
Tho you dont need to be certified its easier getting a job in a tattoo shop with the certifications but I know of many artists around my area who arent
And if you are planning on opening your own shop then you will need to go to Harrisburg and complete safety courses and such
Hope this helps and good luck! |
