Hi,

I am new to this forum and joined because I am looking to get my 1st tattoo but have a couple of questions before going out and finding a good shop + artist as to not waste both my time and theirs, as I know most of them are very busy people!

I am looking to get an armband tattoo with some Chinese characters within it to give it some meaning, however my worry is that I am currently training a lot in the gym and expect my body to grow over the next couple of years so I was wondering if muscle growth would affect the tattoo, as I presume it will stretch with the rest of the skin.

If anyone has any info on this / has had any experience with this I would greatly appreciate your information.

Thank you!

Hmm ssee this is a tricky one with many variables. If you plan on massively gaining muscle mass -- it also depends on where you are placing the ink. how big you are gettin the piece.. what type of piece is it.. like for instance.. i have a dragon wrapping my whole arm to chest -- it flows down my arm and alla that good stuff.. if its a sleeve, you get big a dragon is wavy and such anyhow, i've doubled in size since then, and i dont see a damn thing wrong with it.

I also had a small conservative like 7in cross on my other arm, with old english... looks normal to me...

Now if you are like going from being very lean... to body builder status... that could stretch ur piece to distortion... so it really is a hard thing to pin point. My personal opinion is that -- it doesn't distort that much if at all, when you get bigger, it just depends on how big and what your piece is that can determine that. hope this somewhat helps.. hope someone else out there may have more feedback

Thanks for the reply!

Its been around 1 month since I posted and I thought there was no chance I would be getting a reply.

I wasn't looking to get something very big, just a tribal armband or similar. I was planning on having some Chinese characters placed within it also.

I am not looking to get too big .. max double the size I am. Seems like it should be ok then .. anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for your reply buddy .. it may now be worth going down to a shop and finding out Wink

no prob friend. I'm just tryin to go from my own experience with myself. but each person is different... it'd definitely be a good thing if you go down and talk to the artists at the shop, they'll have the most input probably on what you should do.

If your band is a decent size width, i think that it would be good.

It shouldn't change that much. Why do all the weightlifters get armbands? These are the most unflattering arm tattoos. I find this fascinating. A person who cares enough to sculpt their bodies to perfection would get a tattoo that completely goes against the natural flow of the body. I would suggest something more appealing.
