hi, i was wndering if anyone could shed any light on this, i recently watched something on tattooing, or i read it somewhere, anyways it was saying that some tattooists slightly bend the needles, before they put the needle in the tube, how true is this? is there any truth in this at all? i was under the impression, that the needle had to be straight, not bent Confused

The guy I apprenticed under used to bend his needles so that according to him they would lay flatter against the back of the tip. I found that it made the ink flow not as well. I myself however do use a razor blade to slightly spread the needles on a mag or a flat which give a little larger coverage area.

I do both of these things. But I only spread the single stack mags.

I have herd of bending the needle bar slightly to help keep the needles flat against the tip, I think this is what your talking about. but bending the actual needle group sounds a bit silly to me as this would disfigure the shape of the needle group

ye thats what i meant, slightly bending the needle bar, to keep them flat against the tip, i was just wondering if there was any truth init, thanx for the help guys..

I bend my bars & the reason I do it is so when I double up my rubber band the bar becomes straight again instead of just smashing it against the back of the tube.

bending the needle bar slightly will put tension on it when a rubber band is applied thus keeping it on the back of the tube and helps reduce ink splatter

well i would never bend a needle if your machine is right you dont need to and if your bending needls that means your touching it before you tattoo some one thats not recomended the best idea for hygiene evan with your gloves on you never touch the needles

your not touching needles your bending the needle bar not the needle grouping and you use gloves when doing this as with anything else you would be touching during your prep work. how your machine is running has nothing to do with how the needle bar is held against the bottom of the tube so it doesn't move around, you need a slight bend to put tension on the rubberband so it does what it is supposed to do its not there just to keep the eye loop on the armature bar
