i herd that A & D ointment is not good for the aftercare of a tattoo. Could any tattooist deny or conferm this.

Very conflicting opinions regarding A&D ointment. My artist told me to use it for the first couple of days (1-3 days) and then use regular, unscented lotion, such as lubriderm. I've heard others say to never use A&D ointment. I don't think it's bad AS LONG AS you don't over use it. You're only supposed to use a little bit. I put maybe 3 pin drops on my finger and rub them into the tattoo until it's no longer shiny.

I use it for the first 48 hours.
I think where the problem with using it - or any other ointment for that matter - is twofold:
1) that sometimes people put it on without cleaning the area first. This can trap any bacteria underneath it and promote infection.
2) if too much is used. I only use enough to barely coat it and rub it in well. If it still looks like ointment is on it, then it's too much. |

I always give my clients a packet of A&D for the first 2 days and tell them to apply a very thin layer 3 times a day after washing. I have always used it and recommended it.

i think the biggest problem with A&D ointment is people put too much on the tattoo and start breaking out either in a rash or pimples. as long as you dont use too much and dont break out it should be fine. i have used it on all 6 of my and they turned out great

I was given a & d for all of my tats, only used it the first 2 nights, or even just the first nite. ive heard many stories on how it pulls color and can cause infection so i stick to using my Nivea lotion till the tattoo is done healing. i havent had a problem with it yet !
