Has anyone had the top of there ear pierced does it hurt alot or just like a normal ear piercing.Ive been told its very very painful.  |

Hi Mag,
I've had the top of my ear done, as well as the top/side of the same ear done a couple of years later. The actual piercing hurt less than doing the regular lobe piercing.
But afterwards it hurt more - it can take 8 months to heal and is sore while healing. Both times, I couldn't sleep on that side for almost the full 8 months. |

| yeah I've heard that cartilidge (sp?) piercings hurt quite a bit afterwards, and are hard to heal. I like the look of these though. |

The top of your ear hurts, afterwards..its the healing process, i used to go to bed with my hand cupped over my ear it hurt that much..
but each person is different...
it hurt more than my tragus... |

I've had the top of my ear done twice to have my scaffolding done...
It doesn't hurt at the time because they freeze it, well they did when they did mine lol!
It's just afterwards ur ear gets quite hot and starts to have a dull ache and you can't lie on it in bed for quite a while.
Mine didn't even heal properly so I had to take them out in the end because it was gettin quite painfull and I know a few people who's hasnt healed either.
But it just depends on the person i suppose

| Mine didn't really hurt any more than my lobes, but it's the healing afterwards that is so painful. They hurt forever!! It can take 4 months to a year for them to heal properly because of the cartilage. It can kind of crunch a little bit to....It has been 4 months for mine and it hurts a bit, but not like it did, it was hard to sleep on and I was constantly cleaning it cause puss stuff was coming out of it forever and hardening. They put a hoop in when I had it done, if you can get a stud or barbell it would be better, once I changed it to a flat back stud the hurting seemed to lessen, the hoop hanging on the ear was making it sore and hard to heal. Everyone is different tho. |

If you use a stud, be sure to get the longer shanks.
I originally had my first one done with a regular piercing stud and it swelled a lot the first couple of days. The stud didn't allow it to swell much and instead restricted it, and it became EXTREMELY painful and irritated. I went to the body piercing shop (where I should of gotten it done to begin with) and they had to take out the stud, which really hurt with the ear swollen around it, and then push a ring through the already raw hole, which hurt even more. At my shop they recommend to always do a hoop initially when doing cartilage, because the ring allows it to swell. |

I didn't know this, I had an option between a hoop and a straight barbell. It makes sense tho. I changed it about a month after having it done and it felt like a relief when I changed it.[/quote] |

It did hurt, and I almost took it out. IMO piercing cartiledge is just painful in general lol. Try not to sleep on it for the first few months. I'm sure you'll be fine  |

i used to have the top of my ear peirced when i was younger, and the whole healing process hurt, but especially in the winter it can get painfull, bacuse of being cold lol....

| imo cartilege piercings are one of the worst...it seems ive been attracted to the more painful (nipples, septum, conch) septum was a bitch, conch was a bitch...so just be ready for pain for cartilege piercings |

the only problem i had with my cartilage piercing was that i kept smashing it with the phone, and yes that hurt 
also it sucked not to sleep on that one side, like just because i couldn't, that's all i wanted to do lol |

| ya...for my job we use a phone...i work in a resteraunt where people order over a phone thats in a booth(wierd but it works)...answer phone calls for take out orders...in the conch its hard to clean cuz its so tender and hard to move around but still great piercing |

I have my cartlidge done twice and an industrial and I have to say that the healing process is worse and more painful(especially when you acidentially lay on it  ) then any other piercing i have/had and thats quite a few |

i had the top of my ear done about 2 months ago, and I honstly have to say that it hurt when it was pierced, but now it doesnt really hurt. It throbs occasionally, but nothing i cant handle. It also gets a bit crusty, but thats nothing tha ear care solution cant sort out
Its a bit sore to sleep on, so I tend to sleep with my ear off the pillow and my cheek resting on my hand..
Other than that, I can say that no problems have been encountered |
