I always hear about conventions on the east/west coast and up in the Chicago area (and all over the UK) but I never hear of any around my parts.
Anyone know of any upcoming conventions in Oklahoma, Northern Texas, Kansas or Missouri? |

I think I may heard of one happening in San Antonio and there is also an anual one in Austin. Sorry, I don't know the dates though. |

Great!
Now that it's legal to tattoo in Oklahoma, I'm hoping someone will organize one in OKC or Tulsa soon! Dallas wouldn't be too far either.
Will have to do some digging and see if I can find out more about the ones in San Antonio and Austin. Maybe when it gets closer someone will post more info. Austin or San Antonio would probably have to be an overnighter for me ... although, I *could* use a break in the ol'routine!
Thanks! |

| I didn't even know that tattooing was illegal in Oklahoma. Nice to hear that's it's okay now though. |

Yep, only been legal for about a year (maybe less?) ...
Even when it became legal here, I was leary of some of the new shops popping up, so I still went to CA for a couple of sessions.
But now I've found a great guy in Oklahoma...been a tattoo artist for a long time, recently moved to Oklahoma from Florida. And some time back he was in Chicago in the shop that Hannah Atchison (sp?) used to work at...he just was a guest artist in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, love the new guy and can't wait until I get the tattoo he's working on finished and healed so I can post pics

I've been two sittings on the one now. Am trying to decide if I want background or not, so may have one more after this second sitting heals.
What is your in-progress one of?
Also, the pic in your gallery - is that your tattoo, or one you did on someone? It's really cool (and scary!) looking! |

The tattoo in the gallery is a cover up that is on my left shoulder and flows out onto my back. You can only see the mask in the centre in the pic, but there's allot of wind bars, wind and of course cherry blossoms being blown about.(It has a very long sappy story like you see on Miami ink. I know, very lame.) It's a layered tattoo. It was totaly completed in greyshade before adding the color. The bulk of it was done in one ten hour sitting and then a short two hour sitting a week and a half later.
The one that's in progress now is another cover up being done by the same artist. He's covering a peice that was done by Paul Jeffries (World renowned tattoo artist and author.) about 15 years back. This cover up is a large koi that starts high on top of my right shoulder(Around the collar bone.) and ends about halfway between my elbow and wrist. This will have wind, water and a nice big chrysanthemum flower in the design. Had lots of work done on the elbow and in the ditch last night. Not fun, but it's starting to look like something now.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing your parots and backgroung when you post it. I'll bet the colors are going to make me green with envy. What kind of parots are they? Plaese tell me that one of them is a macaw. |

Gary, the mask is so cool...love it...would of never thought it was a cover-up!
The koi sounds really neat ... I'm partial to animal tattoos and traditionals ... sounds like it's right up my alley! You'll have to post pictures when it's done. I've learned that 3-3.5 hours is pretty much my sitting limit... I can't even imagine a 10 hour sitting...yikes!
Mine is an African Grey, Rainbow Lory, and a Blue & Gold Macaw. They all are from actual pictures of my birds (I do parrot rescue). The macaw is the cover-up. Was a crappy little 4" bird, that was covered-up with an "okay" 14" bird, and then my current guy made some major improvements on him...and then did the branch and other two birds. I'm awaiting the drawing of the background ideas...so probably have one more sitting. |

10 hours is a little much, but my friend said he wanted to keep going untill I had enough. I told him to go untill HE had enough. It ended up being a bit of a contest. He asked me constantly if I was okay and at around the 7 hour mark I started lying like a rug. I just kept on saying "I feel great, how about you?".(I was really crying like a little girl on the inside.) At the 10 hour mark he threw in the towel. I was so happy and starting to shiver uncontrolably.
I have an aunt in British Columbia who has about 10 parots. We haven't spoke in years. Your not her, are you?
When do you go for your next session? |

Men - there's no way you'd catch me in a contest to see how much I could take. When I've had enough - I've had ENOUGH!
Nope, don't think I'm your aunt - although close, as I'm *down* to 9 parrots right now.
BTW, I have a girl friend in Cochrane. You're not her, are ya?
On mine - if I don't do the background, then I'm finished...last sitting was 9 days ago. If I go ahead with the background, then probably around the end of the month... I'm still waiting for his design. He went to a friend's shop in San Francisco to work on a large in-progress tattoo and so I should hear from him when he returns. |

Cochrane is just a little hop and a skip away from my home. (About a 20-30 min drive.)
If you ever get up here to visit your friend, let me know and you and your hubby can come over for dinner with my family. We also have a very high concentration of tattoo shops and artists in Calgary. I could introduce to most of the shop owners if you wanted to go shop hopping.
Edit:
We also have one of the largest tattoo and arts conventions here in Calgary in September. |

Might just have to come out for the convention - would be a good excuse to have to visit her in Sept!!! She'd probably come with me to the convention - she has a couple of *tiny* tattoos so far. (She's one of the friends that got a matching tattoo with me in California). When it gets closer, be sure to post the details.
If I get to come that way, I'll be sure to hollar so we can meet! Probably would just be me, though...hubby doesn't like to travel much. |

I start getting excited about this event as soon as they announce the date.
Looks like it's going to be a good one this year. |

Gary, checked it out and it looks like a great convention! Are you going to have a booth, or just going and enjoying it? I'll see what's going on around that time of year. Unfortunately, I'll be just getting back from Indianapolis mid-August and that's my busiest time for work, so it's hard to get off.
Of course, if I can win the lottery jackpot then that changes everything and I'll be there |

No booth or anything like that, just go for the enjoyment and to buy tons of stuff.
I only tattoo Friday - Sunday. The other 4 days of the week I actually make a decent living. (Oil and gas industry.)
If you can make it up here great and if not, it happens every year. There's always another convention. |

Sounds great!
I'm really looking forward to going to one - never been to one. Looked up the 2007 Calgary convention and found lots of pictures ... I'm even more excited to go now that I saw how many/variety of vendors there are. Guess I better start saving my pennies now cause looks like I'll want to buy a lot of stuff! |
