Well I'm not 100% sure but let me see if I can help.
Let your artist know is the best advice. I myself prefer when a customer lets me know that way I can keep an eye one them. My bet would be your blood pressure is going to be up, the machine will touch you and you will relax. You may even get a little light headed from it when you do calm down. A sudden drop in blood pressure usually causes fainting or light headedness. Make sure you eat, take your vitamins and try to not think about it before you get in the chair. Keep the blood pressure as low as you can before you start. That’s all I have for you.
Good luck Rowdy. |

Beer Beer and more Beer
On a serious note i know how you feel i go through it every time i get work done, even with my leg when i went for the second and third session i still got nervy beforehand.
A decent meal beforehand and a couple of minutes of deep breathing before i go in helps me lots.
Where abouts on you is the tattoo going ? |

I'm exactly like that at the moment. I'm in the middle of a massive koi on my ribs and I'm having 2 hour sessions every three or four weeks. I wasn't too nervous before the first session but before the second session I was really scared.
I don't have any particular advice to offer other than to say that's it really not as bad as you think it's going to be. Also, if you've booked 2 hours, then there's a definite end time to aim at and this seems to make it better. You're not constantly trying to see how far through the artist is and being disappointed when it seems like there's not a lot of progress! |

You know i probably shouldnt say this because it might put it into someones head, but i cant help thinking to myself when im having work done... "Am i breathing REALLY loud ??" and ill end up holding my breath.
I always ask to sit with my artist in the corner where theres a full bookshelf of tattoo related books so i can read the covers to take my mind off it.
Her advice is, just relax, breath normally and dont jump around or itll come out wrong.

Hi Rowdy
The other thing to do is make sure you eat at least 1 hour before you go.
Being nervous eats up blood sugar. This is what will also make you feel faint. If your new artist is good (I dont mean his or her art) they will take the time to talk with you and crack a few funnies to have you relax. To break the ice if they are not the chatty type tell them its been a while and have them explain every step of the set up etc... You can also try the old trick like public speaking... picture everyone ****. I have seen some artists though I would NEVER want to picture ****. You'll be fine!
Best luck on the new ink. |

You guys are making me nervous now! My first session was a 3 hour session. 2 hours into it she finished the outline and asked if I wanted to do some shading (since I had expressed surprise how much some parts hurt - I'd be like "Ow that really zings" etc)
To her surprise (and the missus'), I said yeah go for it we booked 3 hours, and I just sucked it up for another hour staring at the wall or joking with her about the pain (which actually distracted me from it a bit, if that makes sense).
All in all it was an excellent experience - but all this talk from you people who've been inked heaps that you still get nervous is making me think I should be nervous next time too
Just ranting.
Good luck Rowdy I'm sure you will be fine and the results will be well worth it!!! |

Rowdy
I have read and reread this topic, I have spent countless hours in contemplation, i have consulted men of great learning and asked them for their thoughts. I have burnt herbs and thrown rune sticks. I have sacrficed animals at the full moon and run round dressed in a bear skin.
All of this has led me to only one possible conclusion:
You are a wimp |

Happy to hear it went well rowdy.
If this problem should ever arise again........ Just buy me a plane ticket from Canada to your home and I'll be glad to go to the appointment with you for moral support.
No need to thank me. I know you'd do the same for me if I asked. |
