quick question for any moms or dads for that matter. i am the mother of two small children and currently have 15 tats and working on my sleeve. i've found that on the phone the other parents are all for their kids coming over and then they get here. meet my husband and myself and poof the kid isn't allowed over or my kid has to go there. whats up with that. has it happened to you/ how did you handle it cause i swear the next person to judge my kids becaise of my looks is seriously gonna have an ass whooopin for general purposes. I have not had to deal with this... My tatts are easily covered and if not are dainty/classy. I'm sorry you have to go through this.. it sucks!

People are going to be judgemental.. maybe when you talk to a parent on the phone next time.. kindly let them know that in a casual way.. that you have tattoos and that so many poeple judge you once they meet you in person. There's not much more you can do than that... if you're more of a joking person you could probably get away with joking about all the tatts you have and how it makes parents hcange their minds... just in a suttle way so the parent knows what to expect.. and if they say they don't mind & that you sound like a nice person.. you'll find out when they come over if they are BIG hypocrites or not. Other than that there's nnot much you can do.. except appreciate the people who don't judge because of looks.. !!
Hopefully it all works out for you. Let us know if anything ends up going good!! Very Happy

That sucks. I have the exact opposite. I've tattooed two moms that work at my youngest daughters daycare and numerous moms and dads of her schoolmates.

Do you live in a small town by any chance?

I have the same problem. My son is only 9 months, and I am only 18 which has an even bigger stigma towards it. When Julian and I go out to a playdate with ther Moms and babies, they are nice until they know I have tattoos. Once they do Im either not invited to all of them, or invited to the ones not in other parents homes, like in McDonalds, etc.

Although there is another Mom in our group with her septum pierced but thats about it.

I dont get too worked up about it, but sometimes it does hurt my feelings. I just try to be better friends with the Moms who are accepting and am still very polite to the ones who aren't to try and let them see Im the same as them, I just have a couple tattoos/piercings Razz

we actually moved to a much bigger "small town" the one we used t olive in kentucky had only 15 people, talk about sticking out. just sometimes it really gets me going. it's like you know i am the same person that you like to talk to or get advice from regardless of my ink or not. it's just typical stereo typing that gets it, i get it from all directions not only am i obscene to look at but because i am 5'7" and only 109 lbs that automatically makes me drug addict and bulimic. i mean come on for goodness sake before my newwest additon i made my living doing hospice work. i just wish people could open their eyes to more than the outside....thanks for sharing your ops with me. good luck to all.

Thing's are slowly changing, not that this helps you. I notice that when I walk about with my tattoo's in the open I get looks. But I don't care, but you're on a different thing.
Maybe got to school and talk to some of the parents or get their numbers and talkto them over the phone. And tell them just because you have tattoo's this doesn't make you a criminal.
My wife has them and I have noticed the more she gets the reaction is getting worse to.
I hope that one day things will change. But I think it will take a long time to happen.

Awhile back I found this page about several tattoo surveys that's pretty interesting.

vanishingtattoo.com/tattoo_facts.htm
(just add the www . at the front)

To me the whole thing was interesting, but the part that pertains to this topic is towards the bottom (above the actual stats part), where the question is: "How do people without tattoos feel about those with them?" This part of the article was from a poll taken in 2003, so it's fairly recent. So, while tattoos are becoming more widespread, especially among females, the views really haven't changed much by those without tattoos.

Just thought it was interesting...
