Hello, i had my ex husband's name tattooed on my back two years ago (I was a stupid young girl) and now I want it covered up. I have been to two tattoo parlours who have said they will not do it because it is so blocky and it will look awful. I have even told them I dont care what it looks like, i just want something to cover it- any design- which will mean you cannot tell it is a name anymore. The first one refused, the second one told me to have laser and then come back.

I was wondering if any of you will be kind enough to:
1) please say I do have some hope and that i can get it covered up
2) give me some ideas.

I dont want to have laser, it looks too painful, and it would still mean I would need another tattoo on top, and I am looking for a quicker solution also.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Enne

a great big flying bat is what i would recommend. like batmans logo, or a halloween type.

If your measurements are accurate It should not be a problem to cover up. Try to think of something you would really like having on your body for the rest of your life.

Not caring what it looks like is absolutely the wrong idea! Get something you can show off and be proud of! Find an artist who's style you enjoy and who is experienced with doing cover ups! If you have an idea of what you would like, they should be able to draw you a nice piece.

As a general rule, depending on what type of design you are looking for a cover up will need to be 3-5 times the size of the existing tattoo. Generally color tattoos work better for cover ups, because it ads to the artists options as far as being able to better hide the old piece. Tribal hardly ever works for cover ups, as well as being meaningless and ugly in general.

Hope that helps.

just get something you love, at a good shop they can fix it. if not try lazer; or wrecking balm. good luck.

my friend had this exact same problem. she had her ex's name tattooed on her ankle, quite large. not as big as your's but it was quite large.

she got a giant blue rose tattooed onto herself. I'd think of something you genuinely want, get a designer to do it, and put some nice quotes or sayings around it to make it even better. basically anything should cover it up its just a matter of getting the sizing right and coloring of course.

secondly, i know you want to get it removed. but it IS a part of your life. at the time you got it, it obviously meant something to you. now it does not, but do you really want to cover up a part of your past? just be sure its what you want before you go ahead and do it.
