I have been an artist my whole life. Also I have been interested in tattoos my entire life. Recently I purchased a kit as an investment into my own body. Also agreeing to do some work for a few close friends and family. I figured that a kit would probably not contain the best equipment in the world, however with some practice I figured it would suffice.

I have done a few tattoos now, all of them have turned out resonably well. I have had a couple of instances where ink just didnt seem to take, which I will reattempt once the tattoos have healed (trying not to overwork the skin), and I have a little more practice with the machine.

Now that you know my background... Most of my artwork I would like to transfer to skin contains a great amount of gradient shading (black to white, color to color, white to color, black to color.) My brother in law, who requested I finish up a tribal sleeve for him was kind enough to offer me some practice space in areas which could be colored over in black if the effects were not desireable (they werent) While his work came out nicely, and gave me a lot of valueable practice. I would still like to master the technique of gradient shades, or at least become competent enough to put some of my favorite pieces on my body.

Are there any online resources available to help with this? Is anyone willing to offer some advice? Any help is appreciated. Thanx

The only way to learn shading techniques and such is really to go through an apprenticeship...theres a few things like how to set the machine/voltage/and how deep to go etc that cant be taught over the internet
