| I'm 17 and want to get a tattoo. Do I have to be 18 to get one, or can a parent sign a form saying that it is ok for me to get a tattoo. |

It depends where you are.
If you are in the US, then it's illegal in most states to tattoo anyone under the age of 18. Having a parent present does not change this. There are VERY few places that allow under 18 with parent consent (seems like I heard once that NJ does, but I might be wrong on this).
Where I live, you're not even supposed to enter a shop under 18. |

| or you could just hang loose for a few months until you are 18. you could spend the time getting the idea for your tattoo absolutely perfect and find out who would be the best artist to do it. the tattoo will be on your body for the rest of your life so a few months is nothing. |

Here in Australia you have to be 18 no matter what. But there are some people who do turn a blind eye to these things. But they tend to be the not so good tattooist's.
So yes, 18 here to. |

| I know where I live as long as you have a parent sign for you, you can get a tattoo but the shop I go to refuses to do anyone under the age of 18 even if a parent is with them and signs for them. Both of the artists feel that under 18 is too young for someone to have a tattoo. |

i think it depends more on the shop than the state even, i don't know what the actual law is here but i know one shop will not tattoo under 18 no matter what and another just down the road will but it's a pain in the ass. you ahve to have a parent sign...and they need proof that theya re your parent or legal gaurdian...
in MOST cases it's easier to wait till 18, thats what i'm doing, it sucks,,,but ive waited this long and its only a few more months now |
