| Has anyone hidden a tattoo from co workers or family members and gotten away with it? I want to get a tattoo but my family would disown me if they found out. I'm going to get one very low on my hip so they would never see it but I can still see it. Good idea or bad? |

| I hide my first tat but I was only 15 at the time. I had it unseen by my parents for 2 years before just walking about with a T/shirt so they could see it. And by then it was reall too late. It was on my bicep. |

Isn't getting tattoos about rebelling?
If you are an adult, which you seem to be because you can get it on your own, why do you care why your family thinks of it? Live you own life and not theirs. |

| tattoos don't have to be about rebellion. And it's not always possible to live your own life and please your family. Sure it's easy for someone else to say, don't worry about making your family happy they'll come around. But it's not so easy. I could end up experiencing violence or exile as a result. Yes, the risk is high, but I still want to live my own life. I guess I just want to know if it is possible. |

Yes, it's possible.
None of my tattoos had absolutely anything to do with rebellion.
They had to do with what *I* wanted. Period.
Yes, I could easily show my father my tattoos and say "heck with him, I'm an adult, it's my body and I don't care what he thinks." But that is not me. To me family is VERY important. I know it would cause problems with my father, even though I am 44 years old, and even though I have a good relationship with him. For me, I do not feel it's worth the problems. It's easy for me to cover them when I'm around him...I have for almost 15 years...and I can choose show them when/where I feel like doing so.
One of my tattoos covers my entire upper back, so I just don't wear strappy shirts around him - and the other one is on the back of my neck, so I just don't wear a ponytail around him. It's actually very simple and keeps the peace, which is important to me. |

There was an article in Total tattoo a few months back about a practising Vicar who had abou 75% coverage that no one knew about.
Personally i kept mine quiet from my Dad until he died, he would have gone spare.
It is your skin do as you please. |
