I need some advice on a numbing cream to ease the pain of my next tattoo.

I know I sound like a wimp. I'm not. I have four tatt's that I got without the aid of any drugs or alcohol. But the last one I got (number 5) was in an area that was super painful. My tattooist said he was surprised I went as long as I did. Although I pushed myself as much as I could to get it done, it was six hours since I ate and I was so hungry I couldn't deflect the pain of the tatt anymore and had to quit. It's a significant size and I have two more hours to complete it.

However, I caused my body to go into shock and consequently broke out in shingles (which is stress induced) which was 100 times more painful than the tatt. Now I'm afraid to finish my tatt for fear that I'll break out again. I figure if I can reduce the pain a little I may also (hopefully) reduce the stress I may put my body through and hopefully NOT break out again.

Does anyone out there know of a great numbing cream prescription or illegal? I don't care...I'll cross the Mexican border to get some if I have to.

Hey, thanks Chic. I've joked with my friends that I'm going to take a sack lunch when I go to finish my tatt...lol. Okay, I'm half joking. I do plan on taking something with me to eat and drink. But I am still interested in that numbning cream. Thx

Hi Shiiam,

I do not have personal experience with them, but we have talked about numbing creams a few times on here.

If you go to the top of the page where it says "Google Search" and type in "numbing cream" (be sure that TattooType.com has a dot next to it), it should pull up previous threads about it and you can see other people's experiences and recommendations.

Good luck finishing up your tattoo!

Thanks Mommabird,

I really appreciate your advice. I did check out some of the other posts and have decided that I'm going to ask my artist if he would be willing to incorporate the numbing cream to finish my tatt. Also, a friend of mine is going to have his tatt finished tomorrow and will be using the numbing cream as well. I'll be able to get first had knowledge of its benfits. Thanks again.
