Hey guys,

I am starting to get addicted to tattoos. I have one on my arm (1/4 sleeve) and the outline for one on my leg (takes up my whole calf). As of lately ive been thinking lots about getting my 3/4 sleeve done in winter next year (gives me a bit of time to save $$$ before then). however my girlfriend, whilst she doesnt mind tattoos, she has a problem with me getting more than what ive got now. shes afraid i will be tattood from head to toe by the time im 22 (im 20 now)(i dont have a problem with that lol). Also she doesnt like the style of tatts that i have and want (old skool, new skool styles) she like tribal which i am not a big fan of and would never get.

i was just wondering if anybody else has the same or similar problem as i do? and if theres any suggestions about what i should do that would be appreciated. And please dont post something saying "you could just leave her" i think thats the stupid obvious answer.

cheers guys

I have the same type of problem. My boyfriend and I have very different tastes, I like 60's type stuff [later 60's] and he likes early 50's. He also LOVES skulls, reapers, fire, all that kind of stuff. I have no problem with his tattoos and he doesn't have a problem with any of mine.

Where your situation is similar is with my piercings. He hates them. Every new one I get he goes, "I wish you wouldn't get anymore", "I really dont like that one", "Thats a waste of money" etc. Every time I go for a new piercing I get a huge guilt trip and a hassel. All I tell him is that I am using my own money, have all the bills and rent covered (my half anyways) and its my body.

Its all personal choice, the way I look at it. For me if my BF had an absolute problem with something I was doing and he said to chose the piercing or him, I would obviously choose him. When that arrives I will just have to talk to him about it and find out why he doesn't like it.

Sorry Im not any more help, but I would just sit down and ask her why she feels that way.

Good Luck.

You obviosuly have strong feelings for your girl!!.. it's really awesome to see you DO care about her opinion!!..

My fiance is backing me up 110 %% with me starting a career in tattooing, he said he'll be my first 'real person' I tattoo on.. which is great! .. he has a few tattoos. As far as me & tattos/piercings, he doesn't want me getting filled up with them--which is understandable. There's certain things he won't want me getting--which I respect, so I won't! .. it actually makes me happy that he cares tabout what id ecide to do--he loves me for who I am and just doesn' want me to get carried away (which I won't!!) ..I'm planning on getting a belly button piercing.. whcih he's okay with! ..but if I mention cartiledge/tongue.. anything like that it's an automatic NO.. because of the risks. Understandable.

I'm planning on a tattoo on my lower back as well, which he isn't 100 % for, but I know he'll let me get it.. he jsut doesn't want me butchy & covered in them (I'm a girly-girl to an extent.. half on half I'd say!) ..lol

Well hope this helps some ?? .. I kind of just rambled on.. lol, sorry!! Very Happy Good Luck!.. and overall don't let something like tattoos ruin your relationship!.. She loves you & is looking out for you. It's great to see you respect that!.. Talk to her & agree on what you're getting..! .. She'll come around. Just be sensible!! Very Happy

Thanks guys. It's nice to know that im not the only one with this problem. and i yes i do love her very much and care about her opinion...after shes got to look at me, lol! i've spoken to her and told her what i would like to get and i think she is kind of fine with it (she says she is, but her voice doesnt sound 100% convincing) she understands that what the sleeve is based on is a major part of my life (its a music theme, and i play guitar in a band. i basically live and breathe music) and that i promised her i wouldnt go overboard with tattoos. and i always try to stay true to my word.
as for piercing, i had a big fasination with them about 2years ago and wanted to get about 5piercings. Sadly the 'missus' dissaproves of piercings more than tattoos, so that ended my fasination real quick. but i think that was for the best because im over piercing now.

anyways thats enough rambling on. thank you both for the comments i really appreciate it.

i have a similar problem myself with my gilfriend, she hates the idea of me having big tattoos. however i love tattoos, the whole experience of getting tattooed to the finished product i love, nowadays tattoos are used for alot of things, cosmetic tattooing, to help heal someone if a loved one or a loved pet has passed away. i have a huge amount of respect for my girlfriend and i love her more than she knows, and as much as i respect her opinion on tattoos, she also has to respect my opinion on tattoos. i wouldnt say lye down and let your grilfriend tell you what to do to, because at the end of the day we are all equal, we eat, sleep, burp and fart the same as each other lol. but try and come to a compromise with your girlfriend... hope this has helped you...

That's great to see we could help out some!!.. We are all human..

My FH (Future Hsuband/Fiance) is against me getting 'too many' tattoos.. Which again--I don't pan on going overboard.. lol, after I talked to him about a foot tattoo I was planning on giving myself he wasn't too keen on the idea, until I showed him the picture.. than he was fine!!! .. lol, he just doesn't want me thinking I need to 'change myself' !!
Ah, what a boy. Love him to death!

Glad we could help and that everything seems to be working out. Very Happy

if she cant accept you for who you are, what you are and what you like and breaks up with you about it then she is not worth haveing just tell her that "this is apart of who you are and you cant change it just as you wouldn't try and change any part of her" if you really love some one you accept them and everything that comes with them you might not like it but you accept it

I love japanese style sleeves, either way would look great, i personally love the b/g style better then color, but its really up to you in the end friend.

As for gf troubles with ink, I agree with those that say, do what you want for yourself and no1 else, now if that is compromising with ur gf before getting one, and you can be happy with that as well as her, then do that.

My gf, had issues with me having my tattoo's be too large (2 sleeves and a big memorial back piece), prior to these projects, she showed concern for me having my ink in visible places, I did as well, my profession is that in mechanical engineering field... and for most big companies like many others, you gotta be clean cut and hide your ink. which i am subjecting myself to hiding it rather then not getting what i truely want.

She came around, very pleasantly and said it is diesel and she likes it. you never know everyone i think comes around to it... however unless you get like satins revenge or something that may be a bit iffy to a gf lol. hope this helps! gluck withyour ink adventures

I had quite a few tattoos when I met my wife so she knows what I am. She knows she has no say in what I get for tattoos. She trusts me though as she likes what I already have.

All I have to say man, is getting a tattoo is definitely for yourself, they don't all need to have meaning, need to be cool, or whatever.
You just gotta like it and if you get it as a spur of the moment who cares, you may regret it one day but you'll always remember when you got it.

As far as your girlfriend not wanting you to have more, mine doesn't want me to get a chest piece or a second sleeve but I'm doing it anyways.

If she doesn't dig it and has a big problem with it, I'd say let her go if it makes problems because its your body and your decisions.

Plus there's always more girls out there, ones that for real dig the scene.
