Has anyone heard of indian ink? Often used to do own tattoo. Now I'm showing my age her but I am talking 20 years now since I remember hearing a lot about it. Old friend seen and still has a tat we refered to as indian ink.

Don't do it man. I have NEVER seen one tattoo done the way of a needle and india ink that came out ok. It is the common name for liquid black drawing ink made from carbon.

I thought that was only used for producing stuff in a lab setting (like for printing shirt designs, etc... if that makes any sense) Didn't know it was safe to put in your skin.. Shocked

Its not that its not safe... but I am sure its not healthy either... its just NOT made for tattooing. It HAS been used by lots of home made tattoos But its not meant for use tattooing so its fades spreads and just plain comes out like crap. And heres the other thing... just how do you know there isnt something toxic in the stuff. Just dont use it!

This tattoo was done by my exroommate ( he was a pro) when he'd run out of other blacks, and used india ink.

Thanks for the answers. I was beggining to really question my memory. The friend I ran into that brought this all up did have a tat that spread and looked terrible. She has no medical issues or ever has but regrets it due to how it looks. I know she was talking to someone about best way to cover it with a onenewer (with good ink).
What is Indina ink made of?
I got curious so I searched around on the net... I found a little article that said this:

The principal ingredients in Indian ink are carbon black, shellac and denatured alcohol.

Hope this helps...
Apparently they are used in old-fashioned pens a lot.. which I honestly didn't know. Very Happy

Thanks samigirlxox for the info from your research on what the Indian ink is made of. I appreciate the time you took to do that too.
