Hi there,

I'm thinking about getting a tattoo to honour my family - I was thinking of my family crest, with some kind of symbol for family overlapping it at the bottom and then our names in a ribbon or something at the bottom - so two questions:

1. Anyone know where I can find symbols for family? I've been googling for ages and can't find any, except runes, and I was hoping for something a little more substantial - I'd especially like something Welsh... (oh, and nothing Chinese/Japanese, as it doesn't relate to my family at all)

2. Would it be dumb to get my own name tattooed on me? Or would it be better to just have my Dad, Mum and sister's names and leave mine off?

It'd be on the top of my left arm.

Why not look at getting the Welsh Dragon, and then you could have a ribbon thing going under it with your family name. With that you could add whatever you likeed to it. Just say like a couple of swords or a lion standing on the sides of it. Just a thought that might help.

When I was looking for crests for my family I started with the usual "family crest" and "<name? family crest" Google searches. That yielded a few results but it was a slog to go through.

Then I tried "family shields" etc, that got a couple more.

Lastly, I did some reading on the history of places my family originated from, looked at paintings and hostory references and found a couple. All in all, my family name has over 17 crests and shields, none of which I liked as a tatoo Smile

I don't think it's dumb to get your own name tattooed if thats what you want to do.

I've already got my family crest, I was thinking more of another symbol that meant family too - but having considered it I think just the crest will be a better option - then I can have the family name at the top and our names at the bottom - think I might switch it to my back also.
