Long story short... I came up with a design I love. I went in and scheduled an appointment. 10 days to go till I go in, yet here I am on a Sunday evening staring at the design wondering how I can make it better. I've made about 6 different versions of the design, and I'll open each one and just hit my scroll buttons to hit each one.
So far, nothing beats the original, and I'm starting to realize that there's only so much I can do to it while keeping the theme I want with it.
What have you guys done that have experienced the same thing? Did you pretty much throw your hands up, say the hell with it, get it tattooed and be happy? Or did you keep and keep drilling yourself to make it better and suddenly you came up with an unbelievable design that you love? |

I'm a huge procrastinator. While I knew what I wanted my tattoo to say and mean, it took me over 5 years to come up with the concept behind it in pictures.
After handing the artist my reference art (all 7 pieces of it) and being told it was too busy, I pretty much described what I wanted and put my faith in her skills, as I had no clue.
I'm glad I did that, as I only got to see the design 2 days before the actual sitting, and I was so blown away with what she came up with I felt it didn't need changing, just shrinking down to fit my chest LOL.
That probably doesn't help you but it was a good yarn for me nonetheless
Good luck with it. |

Well, my brother came and gave me his 15 year old opinion. Despite his age he's got an eye for things that I sometimes don't catch right away. Well, right off the bat he told me something that he liked about my design.
Now that I look at it more after seeing that, it makes more sense. It's strange, cause I distinctly looked at the section he did and I was like, there's something about that part. Yet he put it into words - which was something I couldn't do.
But anyway, I think it's done now. I THINK. Hahahhaa... I tried so many different versions tonight that I honestly don't know if I could possibly change it and still make it look like I want it. I think it's done.
But we'll see!! |

how about spending nearly 20 years before finally taking the plunge, 6 months tinkering with the design and making the final adjustments half an hour before heading off to the studio?!!
the overall design didn't change much from the first draft but i was playing with simplifying lines, altering colours etc etc all the time. |

| After you finally got it done, were you happy with it? Or did you find yourself like... "Damn! I wish I would of tried that way..." |

very happy with it. but being a serial tinkerer myself i can know see one or two areas that can be improved and i'll be going back to the artist to get it sorted. my one *slight* regret is not having it done some 10% bigger.
if you love your design now i doubt you'll have any regrets about it later. if you want to add stuff then its always possible and you have the rest of your body for other ideas! |

When I make up a design I stick to it pretty much, but I might add a little or take a little away. But I find it really good to get that second opinion to. But in the end its usually the one that was fisrt as this has exactlly what you wanted in the first place.
But playing around with it is good as it show you a different side of it. This is why we tent to head back to the first one. Mine ususally are sort of rough and our tattooist fixes them up really good.
But now I will tell you it usually take me about 6 week to 6 month to decide on which design to go with and the meaning behind it has to fit in there to. |

Sometimes what you first come up with looks the best, and is what you may end up going for.
Make sure its what you want, dont rush it. ANd go for it.
