here's a little question just for the hell of it...
i'm about to have my first tattoo and i'm also about to be 40. i've been planning it since i was about 16 (when my mother threatened to disown me) and has taken years to feel right about the design and to be in the right frame of mind (amongst other reasons). around here, in barcelona, tats are so common among the 20s to 30s that i start to feel its late to be getting started. but not enough to really bother me - i'm doing it because finally i have a design i can't live without.
so what age were members when they had their first tats? and if you started late, what was it that finally made you do it? |

| Hi blamski ,good guestion.I was 42 when i lost my tattoo virginity. Why did i do it ,well like you i had wanted a tattoo for many years but had been blackmailed ,threatened , whatever you want to call it that if i got a tattoo it would be the end of my marriage and my mother would never speak to me again.Well after my wife had an affair i kicked her ass out and told my mother im getting a tattoo and havent spoken to her for well over a year now ifound a tattooist and started on a japanese bodysuit. Ican only speak for myself but its one of the best decisions ive ever made, its a very long and sometimes painfull road, and VERY expensive so be prepared to sacrifice other things like ,food clothes ,that kind of thing. If YOU really want this tattoo and youre sure then go ahead and do it but one word of caution it is addictive ,so what are you waiting for you wont be sorry.go get it done. |

I think age is totally irrelevant with regard to when people get a tattoo. Its your body so don't be swayed by the judgment of others!! I got my first one when I was 27 and am now just 40 (and got my 7th one a short while ago). I choose designs that have nothing to do with fads and trends which may be more popular with younger people. |

On the bright side people will think "Wow, your tattoos kept its colour really well for your age"
Your never too old, but you can be too young in my opinion. If you know exactly what you want, you've invested time in thinking it through - then my advice is go for it and dont look back.
Once you have it, its there for life. And it really does become part of who you are. Go Soldier!!

| I had my first tat at 21. I'm 38 now and still getting them. Working up a new design for my next piece, in fact. Don't let age deter you. And welcome to the world of the living. You haven't really lived til you've had your first....tattoo. |

| i actually started getting tattoos this past february at the age of 22. age definitely doesn't matter. the place i go now, fuzion ink in norfolk, va, has people of all ages. the owner, who is beyond 40 is there all the time getting work done. i wouldn't think age would matter. just the fact that you want to get one is awesome! |
