Hey, what do you guys think of getting wings tattooed across your shoulder blades? I don't want angel wings so much as I am looking to have wings like that of an eagle put across my shoulders spread. Any ideas or insights?

Do a yahoo or google image search. Thats a pretty common piece. You could see alot of styles that way and maybe get an idea of what it will look like on you.

Yea I knows its a semi-common thing. I want to make it different from the rest, do you have any ideas for it. My main goal is to use this piece in memory of my grandfather but also as a sign of strength and perserverance, going with the whole "only the strong survive" type theme and having wings like an eagle symbolizes power. Got any ideas?

Yeah its a great idea, and it can really look good.
THink about what you want, wings outstretched or wings pointing down (if you know what i mean).
Find a design, doesnt necessarily have to be exactly what you want (think about how you want the feathers to look) and get a tattoo artist to design something for you.

I found another one. (Funny how you find more when you stop looking)

Yea, I feel you. I want the wings pointed to the side as if they are spread, rather than pointed down. I wanted the wings to be in black and grays with real nice and detailed shading. Any othe rideas on how to make the wings themselves unique? Also, I want my tattoo to symbolize strength, power, and overcoming adversity which is what I always have done...any ideas for a piece in the center between the wings that would embody those ideas?

I think as long as they look strong, powerful (dare i say - masculine) people will get the idea without having to have "Strong and Powerful" written underneath the wings.
Dont get caught in the trap of trying to ram so much meaning into a tattoo that you comprimise how it looks, if you want a symbol theres plenty to choose from but its really up to you.
Cross, Anvil, Fist, Guns & Blades, Anchor, something patriotic or even text of some kind. All that sort of stuff is symbolic.
