I got my second piece done at the Expo. I went in and looked at virtually every book ( some just skimmed after seeing anything iffy). eventually went back to probably the 7th guy. Agreed on a price, etc. and said it should be an hour to draw up and 2 hours or so to do. Came back and he was still hard at work on the drawing. eventually 2 hrs later he had everything done- explained that he decided to do the tat the size I had given him from my design drawings rather than the smaller that we'd already discussed " so that I wouldnt regret it later" . After looking at his book over and over when waiting I asked him if he could do some shading similar to an effect on another piece he had. Said no prob- just a little extra cash. After qouting me $260 and a couple of hours for the smaller size he made it much bigger, took 3hrs 40 mins and only charged $275; I gave him $300 and said I appreciated all of his efforts so much. By the way, part way through the tat a friend of his came and told him that someone he knew had OD'd and died and the persons girlfriend was wigging out and not going to tell the parents etc. He was obviously bummed, but said that he would take care of the situation and notify the parents etc.
He said he had been tattooing for 19 yrs and is a very nice, calm guy. His name is Danny from Smokin' Guns in Yucca Valley ,Ca
I would highly recommend him.

Sounds really cool!!! Glad you got a grat piece, got any pics? Are you talking about the South Florida Tattoo Expo, back in August? If so that was a great show. I think that getting tatooed at a convention is a blast!!

Hi Melissa Very Happy it was at the San Fransisco Expo in August here in California.
There are three pic of the various views of the tat posted under Celtic ( one of the is actually the front pic for the album just now.
Let me know what you think!

I like it, looks great!!! I love celtic pieces, but I don't have any on me. Do you like getting tattooed at conventions? I think it is a blast at times but at other times I prefer the atmoshpere of the shop.

Again, Great piece!!!

Hi Melissa,
Thank you very much Very Happy
I liked the ability to see many different styles and levels of work at one time, rather than exhaustive search of local shops. The guy who did mine would never have been able to be an option but for the convention. I also liked the constant distractions for me as I was getting worked on- lots of stuff to see!

I agree, there are plenty of things and people to distract you from the tattoo but for me after a few hours it seems to hurt more with an audience. Atleast that the way it was for me. When I got tattooed in August I was fine with everything for the first 3 1/2 hours but that last hour just killed!! Especially when other people were hovering over the tattoo and watching. You can see a picture of that tattoo in the floral section of the gallery.

Beautiful work Melissa!
I was fine for the first almost 3 hours, but the last 40mins when he was working on the inside of my forearm was killer. My ex wife came with me to the show and was around for the last part...she had my nails digging into the back of her thigh for the last part..lol There was a funny old biker dude getting cover up work done by the pprentice at the same booth- he kept cracking jokes about my facial expressions for the last part- and sneakingpictures with his camera! made a funny distraction.

I was going to go to the show, but my daughter had a karate tourny. My friend, Jay, from Jay's Fineline tattoo was there and was going to finish up my half sleeve, but I had to pass for now. I would recomment Jay if anybody in the Bay area wants to check him out. Nice guy, clean shop and I think he does some great work.

Any pics from the show?
