| make sure you put plenty of cream on,vasaline or proper tattoo cream, keep it well moisterised.have a bath rather than a shower and never pick your scabs off as this will pull the colour out. |

go back to your tattooist and get their advise. they are the best ones to advise on it as they did the work, and will be able to actually see it.
If you do have a bath as pixie said, make it a quick one. DONT let the tattoo get soggy. |

Ok Gang!
Why do we keep suggesting "vasaline"?????
Petrolium products "Pull" ink and can/will harbour bacteria as well as smothering the skin... BREATH...
As for Scabing... well, I can only make a judgement on what I have read.
1. tattooist has a HARD hand and burried the needle causing undue damage to the skin.
2. ya just didn't care for the tattoo properly, Vasaline???
3. ya had a bad reaction, first tattoo??
4. are you using products to help the tattoo heal that you have NEVER used before on your body; tatwax, A&D, vasaline, fragented moisturizer, soap, etc...
Bottom line.... Go back and see the Tattooist NOW!!! let him/her advise you! If you are then not satisfied see a doctor if there is any pain, swelling or redness!

i usually put it on for the first day or so to protect the surface from bacteria, while the top layer repairs itself..
then switch to normal unscented moisturiser... |

I think having been a tattooist for over 13 years I know a little bit more than your average punter. The aftercare advice that I give is the same as that given by the institute of environmental health and the health and safety inspectorate.
The 'chip' I have on my shoulder comes from people getting tattooed in our studio and rather than follow our advice, they instead listen to 'tattoo experts' such as those on this site. Then they wonder what has gone wrong with their tattoos!!!
I have given some correct aftercare advice on your site, which you have chosen to delete.Instead you allow people to be advised to soak tattoos in the bath,in salt water,to use vaseline and sudocream;all things which the C.I.E.H. advise you shouldn't do.I would like to know how much tattooing experience the moderators of this site actually have.If you offer this kind of aftercare advice to your clients you must have people coming back all of the time....to complain. |

| Idont like your vile attitude where do you get off talking to people the way you do???.as for your so called advice ,is it beyond you to give it in a friendly manner, or do you think you can get away with the same attitude here you probably use in your house or shop ,guess what you cant.manners cost nothing and YOU dont have any.loudmouth rude obnoxious ,so called tattooists like yourself give the industry the bad name it mostly doesnt deserve.Your advice is pathetic and wrong .even if you were the best tattooist in the world ,with your attitude youd still go bust.YOU dont give advice you insult people and think its funny. So if you are so much more intelligent than the rest of us why dont you go and find a site that will appreciate your golden wisdom ,ive met many arrogant know all tattooists just like yourself and they all end up scrathchin a livin from home. ,my friends ask for advice not insults so my advice to you is the same i would give to your customers GO ELSEWHERE. |

| Ihave no tattooing skills whatsoever ,what i do have is the knowledge that what works for one wont work for another. There are no Golden rules only guidlines .It wasnt your advice that started this its your foul and arrogant attitude ,you talk to people as if they are stupid ,maybe i dont know as much as you ,ok happy ,but i do know when a loudmouth with no manners speaks.Anyhow we dont allow your attitude on here so either change it or dont post and this ends the matter. |

Robtat,
we haven't been trained in the art of tattooing, and neither me, rowdy or Ob have ever said we had...
please stop acting like your toys have been dropped out of the pram...
we offer advice on things that we have learned over the years..
if you dont like it, then please dont come in here...
We do this job for our enjoyment and for others who appreciate our time and effort...
start your own forum...then you can argue with yourself until the cows the come home... |

You could be having a reaction to the metals used to create the color pigment used in the ink. There are different metals that are used to create each shade which sometimes varies by manufacturer. I've heard that red and green cause the most problems. Personally, I've had no trouble with reds, but both my husband and myself have had a lot of problems with greens. Almost every tat we have containing green scabs really badly, seems to heal a lot slower and usually looks a little inflammed.
As for the scab falling off so easily, it could also be due to the ink being put in too shallow. If the ink did not reach the dermis, then it will fall out. Even if it was put all the way into the 5th layer of the epidermis, this layer will eventually shed off. Ask the tattooist that you used what depth he uses on the needles. I try to keep mine between 1/16 and 1/32 of an inch to avoid both the possiblilities of the ink going too deep or too shallow. Also, if they use the correct depth, do they have the tip against the skin so that the needles penatrate to the depth set or do they let the tip hover which can cause the needle not to get to the correct depth?
Try to find an antibiotic cream that isn't petroleum based, because as stated before, Vaseline tends to pull the ink out. I usually only use it, very lightly, right after the tattoo is done to help stop any bleeding and the first day or night to help keep out any dirt or dust, then I switch to the antibiotic cream. When it starts to peel of flake, I switch to a good petroleum and fragrance free lotion. Try to avoid soaking the tattoo. Stay out of the bath and no swimming until it heals. In the shower, try to avoid letting the water run on it contantly as this will make the scab turn soggy, which you don't want to happen. Just wash it with an antibacterial soap and give it a quick rinse.
These are just some possiblilities and come from my experience only. Obviously everyone has different experiences and practice different aftercare techniques, so I suggest just to try different ways until you find the one that works best for you. |
